A Miniature Needle-holder for the Finest Suturing.

چکیده

MANY needle-holders are in use and each surgeon has his own preferences for different kinds of suturing, in different kinds of tissues, and in different positions of the surgical field. The position presents a difficult problem and there is often a need for greater accuracy and manoeuverability than is possible with the conventional needle-holders. To meet the need for such an instrument, a "Holder Needle" has been developed and reported (Rambo, 1962). A small needle-holder has also been developed for me by John and Ernst Grieshaber. This holder is 4 5 cm. long and 2 cm. in height at the handle. It can be held between the index finger and the thumb for the finest sewing of tissues such as the cornea and sclera, and would also be useful in suturing nerves and vessels (Figs 1 and 2). />

Electromyographic Comparison of Forearm Muscle Movements for Fine Skin Suturing Between an Enlarged Pen Needle Holder and a Webster Needle Holder

BACKGROUND For surgical suturing, a Webster needle holder uses wrist supinating with supinator and extrinsic muscles, whereas a pen needle holder uses finger twisting with intrinsic and extrinsic muscles. Because the latter is better suited to microsurgery, which requires fine suturing with less forearm muscle movement, we have recently adopted an enlarged pen needle holder scaled from a micro ...

Frimand Needle Holder Reduces Suturing Time and Surgical Stress When Suturing in Palm Grip.

Purpose The Frimand needle holder (FNH) was developed to facilitate palm grip suturing. In the present study, we wanted to examine the impact of the FNH compared with a conventional Hegar-styled needle holder (HSNH) on suture time and surgical stress. Methods Thirty-two surgeons were enrolled and they performed sets of 3 continuous sutures on a polyurethane pad with premarked insert and exit po...

A new needle holder facilitating palm grip suturing.

PURPOSE The finger grip and the palm grip are the most common needle holder grips for hand suturing in surgery. The major advantages of the palm grip are an increased versatility and the possibility to apply controlled force. However, there is a risk for a potential loss of precision and uncontrolled movement of the needle when disengaging the ratchet mechanism of the palmed instrument. The pur...

A Holder Needle.

THE finest movements of surgery are made with the fingers and thumb, not with the wrist and hand as a whole. In the usual method of suturing, the needle is grasped by the needle-holder which is held more or less in the palm of the hand. The fine, sharp needles of ophthalmic surgery, such as those made by Grieshaber, inevitably become dulled as they are grasped by the metal blades of the needle-...

Inspecting and unbending surgical needle holders

driver (Figure 1), is made from stainless steel and is used to hold a suturing needle during surgical procedures. To maintain a firm grip on the needle, the jaws have textured patterns either etched directly on the stainless steel or on a replaceable tungsten carbide insert, which grips the suture needle more precisely and wears out much slower than stainless steel. Needle holders with tungsten...
